With searches, applications, and rating tools proliferated in the private market, it is important that New Yorkers living in subsidized housing and public housing have the same resources to better their living condition. With Expose.NYC,we are able Facilitate engagement with local authorities, city officials, landlords and residents to solve violations together! Expose.NYC incorporates the social component of place of residence to coordinate, track and make actionable decisions to report building violations in NYC. To create Expose.NYC, we collaborated with the AppCityLife team and used their platform to analyze the housing violations and complaints data from NYC open source database. From there we were able to see that there wasn’t much information online about housing violations so if a homebuyer or a current homeowner wanted to see what is going on in the building it wouldn’t be possible. We plan to add a system in which current housing residents can report their issues such as mold, this report would go directly to the landlords and related officials so that these issues can be solved together.

Ultimately we had three goals for Expose.NYC :

  1. Harness the power of community and social engagement around NYC
  2. Bring transparency to building regulations, compliance and violations
  3. Facilitate engagement with local authorities, city officials, landlords and residents to solve violations together!
